Morning sickness

To avoid backache

  • Avoid lifting heavy objects
  • Don’t bend on your knees and
  • Keep your back straight when lifting or picking up something and
  • Wear flat shoes so that your weight would be evenly distributed.
  • Move your feet as you turn around to avoid twisting your spine

Bladder and bowel problems

Many women experience unpleasant conditions during pregnancy like constipation, frequent urination, incontinence, and hemorrhoids. Maintaining a healthy diet and regular pregnancy exercise can do a favor to make your pregnancy less uncomfortable.

Constipation

You may be the victim of the constipation problem because of the hormonal changes in your body. Constipation means having trouble in passing out stools as you normally do. To avoid constipation you can do a few things.

  • Eat food that contain high fibers e.g. whole meal breads, wholegrain cereals, fruit and vegetables, pulses etc
  • Move regularly to keep muscles toned
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Avoid iron supplements

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes is on of the pregnancy complications that pregnant women have to face. Diabetes that effect normally a pregnant woman.

Glucose is the main source of energy in your body. To get the glucose out of your blood and into the cells of your body, your pancreas makes a hormone called insulin. In gestational diabetes, hormonal changes from pregnancy cause the body to either not make enough insulin, or not use it normally. Instead, the glucose builds up in your blood, causing diabetes, otherwise known as high blood sugar.

Haemorrhoids

It is also known as ‘piles’. These are enlarged and swollen veins around the lower rectum and anus. It may occur due to constipation or pressure from the baby’s head.

Haemorrhoids may itch, ache, feel sore or even bleed. It usually vanishes within weeks after baby birth.

  • To ease Haemorrhoids
  • Eat fiber rich food
  • Avoid standing for long time
  • Move regularly to improve circulation
  • Avoid straining to pass stool
  • Use moist toilet paper instead of dry paper for cleaning

Frequent urination

Frequent urination need starts in early pregnancy. Sometimes it continues throughout pregnancy. In the later stage of pregnancy, this issue is because of the baby’s head pressing your bladder.

Incontinence

It could be a common problem and can affect you both during and after pregnancy. A pregnant woman is unable to prevent the small leak of urine when they cough or sneeze or when they move suddenly. This may be temporary because of pelvic floor muscles and relax slightly to prepare for the baby’s delivery. You can avoid it by doing pelvic floor exercise.

Changes to hair

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can affect your hair, making them thicker or thinner. You may face hair fall during pregnancy. These changes happen due to the hormonal changes.

Women feel thicker hair during the 15th week of pregnancy. It is due to the increase in the hormone oestrogen.

Some women experience hair fall during pregnancy, this is due to a decrease in oestrogen.

Changes to skin

As pregnancy progresses, you may experience changes to your hair and skin. Some women get dark patches on their face. Your skin may get dark in these days. You may get stretch marks on your body, particularly around your stomach. The dark patches may develop due to oral contraceptives women take during pregnancy. Stretch marks may appear on your stomach or sometimes on your thighs or breasts.

Most women get swollen ankles and feet during pregnancy. It is a natural concern about swelling until it became uncomfortable, it may make your shoe tighter. There are three main reasons why women get swelling during pregnancy.

  • During pregnancy, you produce more blood to help the baby grow than normal days
  • As the baby grows, the uterus presses on and blocks the veins slightly that return blood from your legs to the heart
  • The walls of our veins get softer, which makes you harder to work properly

Vaginal discharge

All women, whether pregnant or not, have some vaginal discharge starting a year or two before puberty and ending after the menopause. The discharge rate varies from time to time. It is quite normal to have vaginal discharge during pregnancy. It happens because in pregnancy the cervix and virginal walls get softer and increase discharge to prevent infection moving up from the vagina to the womb.

Tell your doctor if

  • It smells strange
  • Discharge is colored specially blood colored
  • You feel sore or itchy

Healthy vaginal discharge should be clear and white and should not smell.
